Tammy Scelfo is among Acadiana’s leading business transactional attorneys. Her clients include businesses from a wide variety of industry sectors, such as petrochemical, healthcare, and banking and financial services. Her legal counsel ranges from commercial and industrial real estate and title issuance matters to all types of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, commercial loan transactions, divestitures, and other contractual arrangements for both specialized and traditional industries. In the area of lending and finance, Tammy represents both lenders and borrowers alike involved in real estate development, financing and construction, vessel construction, equipment purchasing and leasing, and inventory and accounts receivable-based lending and borrowing. She guides real estate developers through the negotiation and documentation of all types of real estate transactions, including sales and leasing and the issuance of title insurance. Notably, Tammy serves as a Title Agent for First American Title Insurance Company. In addition, Tammy guides all types of business owners through the formation and restructuring of business entities. She provides ongoing legal counsel pertaining to general business matters, negotiating and drafting complex commercial contracts, and representing purchasers and sellers in merger and acquisition transactions. Moreover, she assists clients in their estate planning and probate needs, including drafting wills, trusts, and powers of attorney, as well as handling successions. Tammy is regularly involved in deals that range in value from tens to hundreds of millions of dollars. Regardless of the complexity or level of difficulty of the client initiative at hand, Tammy is at her best working on transactions involving many moving parts and varying interests, logistics, and goals. An active listener who is patient and ever professional and congenial, Tammy cares about understanding the motivation of each client’s deal constituents. In fact, Tammy is frequently able to incorporate win-win compromises that do not negatively impact what her client is seeking to achieve – the result of which is an even stronger business relationship going forward between/among her client and their project partner(s). Tammy began her legal career as a litigator, training that allowed her to be a far more astute transactional advisor. Because she litigated state and federal court contractual disputes and indemnity claims, she experienced firsthand how poorly written contracts – with even one word out of place – can result in serious and expensive litigation. She brings this higher level of sensitivity and skill to executing clear, concise contracts that safeguard her clients’ interests today and into the future.
