Bernhard Sakmann is a Senior Managing Director in the firm’s corporate advisory business, providing strategic and financial advice to life science companies with a focus on life science tools and diagnostics and on medical devices. Notable transactions for which Dr. Sakmann has been an adviser include Philips on its acquisitions of Biotelemetry and Capsule, Decipher on its sale to Veracyte, SHINE Medical on its acquisition of Phoenix, ArcherDx on its sale to Invitae, Abbott on its acquisitions of St Jude Medical and Alere, Brooks Automation on its acquisitions of Genewiz and BioStorage Technologies, Terumo on its acquisitions of Sequent Medical and Bolton Medical, among many others. Prior to joining Evercore in 2014, Dr. Sakmann spent over a decade in healthcare investment banking and in management consulting with Lehman Brothers, Citigroup and Oliver Wyman in New York and in London. Dr. Sakmann received a Doctorate in Medicine from Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany, a B.M. BCh. from Oxford University, UK, and a B.A. and an M.A. in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, UK.
